CARSON CITY — An Assembly committee voted today to strip state workers of longevity pay, but members talked about providing cost-of-living raises for employees.
The Assembly Ways and Means Committee, with three dissenting votes, approved AB436, which is supported by Gov. Brian Sandoval.
Assemblywoman Robin Titus, R-Wellington, said those who stay with the state should be recognized.
But Assemblywoman Jill Dickman, R-Reno, said a poll of state workers showed a cost-of-living increase was more important to employees than longevity pay.
Members said they would work to find $50 million to finance a cost-of-living raise. There is no money in Sandoval’s budget for a cost-of-living increase.
Voting with Titus against the bill were Republicans Chris Edwards and Derek Armstrong, both of Las Vegas.
The bill goes to the full Assembly.
