Nearly 1,700 NV Energy customers were without power Monday night due to an outage near Stephanie Street and Russell Road caused by a motor vehicle crash, according to the company's website.

As of about 10 p.m., 47 customers remained without service because of the crash, according to the NV Energy Outage Center.

The outage was reported at 7:13 p.m., according to the website.

A car hit a power box on Sunset Road just west of Stephanie, and the driver fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind, Henderson Police spokeswoman Michelle French said.

The crash affected power at a nearby Target shopping center and in the area, French said.

It was not immediately clear how long it would take to restore power to the remaining affected customers.
