A hiker injured in a fall at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area has been "safely transported" to the hospital, according to Metro Police.

Officer Jesse Roybal offered no updates on the condition of the woman, who was taken to University Medical Center.

Police were called to Ice Box Canyon about 12:30 p.m. to help the hiker, Officer Larry Hadfield said.

Metro’s search and rescue team was on scene and using a helicopter to locate the woman. The search effort was being made more difficult by the winds, Hadfield said.

Winds in the Red Rock area are about 10 mph, but conditions in the canyon can be different because of its depth, National Weather Service meteorologist Clay Morgan said.

Ice Box Canyon is a moderately strenuous trail at Red Rock, according to the Bureau of Land Management.
