Southern Nevada in for an extra-warm weekend

Fri, Sep 25, 2015 (2 a.m.)

Sunshine, mostly clear skies and high temperatures are expected to greet Las Vegas Valley residents this weekend.

The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures near or above 100 degrees all weekend, with a high of 102 degrees predicted for Friday, meteorologist Jim Harrison said.

The high temperature is expected to drop slightly to 99 degrees by Sunday, Harrison said.

Low temperatures should reach the upper 70s Friday and Saturday night before cooling to 72 degrees Sunday, he said.

Winds are expected to be breezy Sunday but otherwise inactive over the weekend, he said.

Weekend temperatures aren't expected to break any records and will be in line with the heat the valley experienced Thursday, when the high hit 102 degrees at McCarran International Airport, he said.

The high was 11 degrees above the daily normal, Harrison said.
