Tragically Hip

Most successful Canadian musicians quickly establish themselves outside their home country. Artists ranging from Rush to Justin Bieber have gotten their start in Canada only to quickly expand internationally, finding success in the U.S. and around the world. But that’s not the case for the Tragically Hip, the long-running Canadian rock group that’s been a beloved institution in its native land for nearly 30 years, but is still something of a cult phenomenon in other countries.

For Americans who are in the know, however, it means that a group that typically fills arenas in Canada can be seen locally in a much more intimate setting. From their early days as a blues-influenced rock band through the evolution of their sound into something more experimental, the Hip have continually topped the charts in Canada. And it’s a privilege to see them outside their homeland.

House of Blues at Mandalay Bay, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3, starting at $42.50 plus tax and fee, 21+. 800.745.3000 Ticketmaster
