A motorist was arrested on a DUI count this morning after hitting a bicyclist and then leaving the scene, according to Metro Police.

The 52-year-old bicyclist, identified as Jerry Stanton of Las Vegas, suffered critical injuries, police said. Stanton was riding about 7:50 a.m. on North Arville Street, near West Twain Avenue, when he was hit from behind by a car traveling at a high rate of speed, police said.

The car, driven by Joshua Prinz, 30, of Las Vegas, continued down Arville Street, leaving the scene, police said.

A witness followed Prinz to 4300 block of West Twain Avenue and stayed with him until officers arrived, police said.

Prinz was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on counts of driving under the influence resulting in substantial bodily harm and failure to stop at the scene of a crash involving an injury, police said.

Stanton was taken to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The northbound and southbound lanes on Arville were closed between Harmon and Rochelle avenues, police said.
