Football: There is no close second

Las Vegas Sun sports editors Ray Brewer and Case Keefer ring in the start of football season by discussing some of the valley's top storylines and teams, like Bishop Gorman, Liberty, Arbor View and Desert Pines.

Foothill’s Jordan Wilson and Blake Wilson are not related. It just may have looked like it with the way they ran Cheyenne off the field in an opening-night win Friday.

The Falcons defeated the Desert Shields 39-6 behind running back Blake Wilson rushing 25 times for 230 yards and three touchdowns, and quarterback Jordan Wilson accounting for three more scores and 200 total yards.

“We blocked really well up front, and wore them down running the football,” Foothill coach Marty Redmond said.

Despite the blowout, Redmond said Foothill made some offensive mistakes that will need correcting. The defensive performance was much closer to flawless.

Cheyenne’s only points came on a kickoff return, as Foothill otherwise shut it down all night.
