The Southern Nevada Visitors Center just south of Searchlight on U.S. 95 has been closed because of water quality issues, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

While conducting a monthly test, particles of mud were found in the intake system at the facility, NDOT said.

Maintenance crews were working to resolve the issue, but the facility will remain closed until further notice, NDOT said.

Spokesman Tony Illia described the closure as precautionary and said the department hadn't received any reports of people getting sick from the water, which is supplied by a well.

The next closest NDOT rest areas are the Laughlin Brake Check and the Boulder City Welcome Station.
