Money entitles Foley to team name

Sun, Dec 25, 2016 (2 a.m.)

In the Dec. 13 edition of the Las Vegas Sun, a letter writer complains about the name of the new hockey team, the Vegas Golden Knights (“Hockey team name elicits no pride”). The writer admits that he is “only a casual hockey fan” but seems rather upset with the team’s chosen name.

Bill Foley, the team owner, has spent a half-billion dollars to obtain an NHL franchise for the city of Las Vegas. This is the first major-league professional franchise to locate in our city. No football (yet), no baseball, no basketball, no soccer.

I think Foley is entitled to call his hockey team the Vegas Banana Slugs or Vegas Golden Twinkies if it pleases him. I am just thankful he is willing to go through all the effort and spend a whole lot of money to bring the Vegas Golden Knights to our town. He chose the name, and he was certainly entitled to do so.
