A suspicious package in a car outside Metro Police headquarters has been deemed safe and the headquarters campus, which was shut down, has been reopened, authorities said.
Police declined to say what the package turned out to be.
Martin Luther King Boulevard, which was closed between Alta Drive and Symphony Park Avenue, was expected to open by about 9:15 a.m., once emergency vehicles cleared the area.
Police said they discovered a man behaving suspiciously in the parking lot about 5 a.m. and also found a car with a suspicious package inside. Police did not describe the item or say what made the man seem suspicious.
Metro’s all-hazard ARMOR unit and the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue bomb squad were called in to investigate. The situation was declared safe by about 9 a.m.
Detectives were interviewing the man, but it was unclear whether he would face any charges, police said.
Neighboring businesses were not evacuated, but people were instructed to stay inside, police said.
