Wrapped around two punt return touchdowns from Liberty senior Darion Acohido in the opening 15 minutes, senior defensive end Noah Espinoza returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown.

It was that kind of night for the Patriots, which downed Valley 54-0 in the first round of the Sunrise regional playoffs.

“We didn’t have a lot of offensive production because our special teams and defense kept scoring,” Liberty coach Rich Muraco said.

That was a good problem to have, though the offense fared fine when it was on the field. Junior quarterback Kenyon Oblad went 3-for-3 for 160 yards and three touchdowns.

The win sets up the season’s second meeting with rival Silverado, which Liberty defeated 58-13 three weeks ago.

“Every time we play Silverado, there’s a lot of emotion and a lot at stake,” Muraco said. “Our kids will be fired up.”
