Kaden Renshaw accounted for two touchdowns tonight for the Durango High football team, helping it built a three-touchdown first-half lead against visiting Desert Oasis for a 20-12 victory in the Southwest League opener for both schools.

T.K. Fotu’s interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter gave the Trailblazers the lead for good. They improved to 3-0 on the season.

“We came out and jumped on them early,” Durango coach Matt Gerber said.

Durango led 20-0 at halftime after Renshaw rushed for a touchdown and connected with Justice Story for another. But Desert Oasis (0-4) stormed back in the second half to make things interesting.

Jaden Mitchell had a pair of receiving touchdowns from Mitch Moniz for Desert Oasis in the second half.

“We were able to hold on in the second half. We are happy about that,” Gerber said. “They are a lot better than their record indicates.”
