A large South American rodent led Metro Police officers and volunteers on a chase through a central valley shopping center parking lot this afternoon before it was captured.
Clark County Animal Control officers responded about 3 p.m. to the area of Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard, according to county officials.
The Patagonian mara was being sheltered at the Animal Foundation, officials said. “At this time, we do not know who owns the animal,” Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin said.
Video captured by KLAS-TV showed the chase unfold.
Metro and animal control officers, along with several volunteers, sprinted through the parking lot as the animal evaded capture.
At one point, the rodent went under a pickup truck. It was finally netted and placed into an animal control vehicle.
A Metro officer announced the capture to dispatch with a laugh. “We have one in custody,” she said.
