Las Vegas has Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. You can water-slide through a shark tank at the Golden Nugget, and the spirit of “Tark the Shark” will always be a part of the city’s history.

But Vegas is about to be subject to a new, more ferocious aquatic attack—a sharknado.

“Sharknado 5: Global Swarming” held its premiere event at the Linq Hotel & Casino on August 6, and after the stars of the campy Syfy channel sequel walked the red carpet, it was announced that a “Sharknado Live” spectacle is in development for a Strip venue. Teaming up to produce the new attraction are The Asylum (producers of the “Sharknado” film franchise), Bernie Yuman of SAY Entertainment, Royal Oak Management, Panacea Entertainment and Caesars Entertainment—so it’s safe to say a Sharknado is coming, and it’ll happen at a Caesars venue.

“Sharknado has evolved to become a SyFy phenomenon,” says Yuman, the longtime manager of Siegfried & Roy and producer whose Broadway musical “On Your Feet” is about to embark on a 32-city tour starting in October. (And yes, Yuman says the musical production that tells the story of Gloria and Emilio Estefan will visit Las Vegas in 2018.) “From the first movie to the fifth, ‘Sharknado’ has really been embraced domestically and globally. It’s a lot of fun, and I've come to love it. We feel that in Las Vegas we’ll be bringing something to life that you wouldn’t expect to see as a live show.”

But what exactly will the “Sharknado Live” experience bring to Vegas? The announcement states “the multi-sensory show will be a musical journey featuring humor and intrigue as well as the characters that tens of millions of fans have loved through five films … and yes, lots of sharks.” Don’t rule out the possibility of a show-ride hybrid, something very different from what the Strip has seen before.

Yuman knows better than anyone that Vegas needs different. “If you have an original concept with compelling content, then you have a shot at making it work,” he says. “That’s what this is.”

More “Sharknado Live” details are expected soon.
