Las Vegas Sun sports editors Ray Brewer and Case Keefer welcome back football season by going through all the leagues, and also touch on major storylines. They also disagree on picks for numerous week 1 games.

George Tribble Jr. passed for three touchdowns tonight for the Cimarron-Memorial High football team in a 30-23 win against visiting Coronado.

Cimarron scored the game’s initial 17 points to take the lead for good. Coronado managed to trim the deficit to one point, 17-16, before Cimarron scored consecutive touchdowns to put the game out of reach.

“We didn’t play our best game, but lo and behold we stayed true to what we do and got the win,” said Kory Walker, Cimarron’s first-year coach.

Karion Harrell had a 65-yard touchdown reception, Marcus Phillips Jr. added a 12-yard scoring grab and Marcus Poole hauled in an 80-yard touchdown catch.

“George is a very smart quarterback,” Walker said. “He took a couple of shots but was able to keep his composure.”

Alonzo Pollard added a short touchdown run for the Spartans, who also recorded a safety.

“The guys responded and reacted just like we expected,” Walker said. “They see that how we practice is going to translate into wins.”
