Las Vegas Sun sports editors Ray Brewer and Case Keefer welcome back football season by going through all the leagues, and also touch on major storylines. They also disagree on picks for numerous week 1 games.

Kalyja Waialae’s 70-yard touchdown reception with one minute to play today gave the Green Valley High football team a 42-35 victory on the road in California against El Toro High.

“He got behind the defense and we threw it over the top,” Green Valley coach Brian Castro said.

A.J. Barilla passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another for Green Valley, and Braxton Harms had two touchdowns. Christian Mayberry and sophomore Noah Hawthorne also scored for the Gators.

Reyden Morett had a 45-yard pick-six in the victory.

“It is a real big (confidence) boost,” Castro said. “We felt confident going into the year that we have some good kids. Anytime you go on the road and beat a team of that caliber, it’s a boost.”
