All-City running back Jayden Perkins picked up this season right where he left off in 2016, accounting for 296 yards and four touchdowns to lead Virgin Valley to a 31-12 opening night win over Canyon View of Utah.
“He had a great night for us and did a lot through the air,” Virgin Valley coach Yori Ludvigson said.
Perkins finished with 128 yards on the ground and 168 yards through the air.
Quarterback Cade Anderson completed six passes for 205 yards and four touchdowns — more yards and scores than he threw for all of last year combined.
“Cade was on the money tonight; he threw some good balls,” Ludvigson said. “We’ve got to make them be honest and get them out of the box to open things up for Perkins.”
Junior receiver Vicente Pinto caught a 25-yard touchdown for the Bulldogs, who opened the season with a win for the first time in three seasons.
“It’s been awhile so it’s big to start off with a win,” Ludvigson said. “Doing it against an out-of-state opponent is even better.”
