Sagan Gronauer had four touchdown passes in the first quarter tonight for the Faith Lutheran football team in a 42-6 victory against visiting Durango in the Sunset Regional quarterfinals.

Gronauer completed 18 of 22 passes for 284 yards and five touchdowns, including a pair of scoring strikes to each Peyton Thornton and Dalton Kincaid. Kincaid caught six passes for 105 yards.

Faith Lutheran was pitching a shutout until the game’s final minute when it surrendered a touchdown after an offensive fumble.

“We played a rather complete game,” Faith Lutheran coach Vernon Fox said. “I felt real good about our efficiency and being able to move the ball down the field.”

Faith Lutheran advances to next Thursday’s Sunset semifinals against Bishop Gorman, the eight-time defending state champion. Gorman hasn't surrendered a point since Sept. 16 — a span of seven games.

Last season, Faith Lutheran was eliminated 58-10 by Gorman in the same round of the playoffs.

“We believe in what we do,” Fox said. “We’ll try to play our game and be efficient. We understand the gap for errors slims out. You can’t make errors against a good team.”

Saundre Spiller and Josh Hong added touchdowns against Durango.
