Anyone who thought Green Valley might be looking ahead to its Henderson Bowl showdown with Basic was sorely mistaken.

The Gators punished host Silverado 49-0 in a pre-Basic tune-up Friday night.

“Our kids played really well,” Green Valley coach Brian Castro said. “We didn’t even score on special teams or anything. We just scored a lot on offense.”

Senior quarterback A.J. Barilla directed the offensive masterpiece, going 15-for-23 passing for 193 yards and three touchdowns. Noah Hawthorne, J-Vonni Sanchez and Braxton Harms caught his touchdown strikes.

Desmond Bowers paced Green Valley on the ground, scoring two touchdowns and crossing over 100 yards rushing. Julian Hulse also had a rushing touchdown, while Israel Robinson had the one non-offensive score.

Robinson returned an interception for a touchdown. Now that the Skyhawks are out of the way, the Gators are ready to bring on the Henderson Bowl.

“It’s always an exciting week,” Castro said. “It’s definitely on our mind and something we’re thinking about.”
