Sunrise Mountain notched its most lopsided win of the season and broke a two-game losing streak in beating Western 60-13 Friday night.
The Miners activated the running clock early in the second half after leading 34-0 at halftime, and didn’t allow the Warriors to score until late in the fourth quarter.
“I don’t feel like we played all that well to be honest,” Sunrise Mountain coach Chris Sawyers said. “It was a really choppy game, hard to get a rhythm going.”
One player who did find a rhythm was senior running back Trayvon Ward, who went for 205 yards and three touchdowns. Junior quarterback Tyree Hayes was also efficient, tossing three touchdowns and totaling 250 passing yards.
Ward got one of the touchdowns, with seniors Xavier Kyles and T’andre Love catching the other two.
Sunrise Mountain improved to 3-3, while Western fell to 1-5.
