Rivalries galore

Hammer, bell, bowl, bulls, roses and more. Ray Brewer and Case Keefer discus the numerous rivalry games taking place across the valley in this week's slate of high school football games.

If the rivalry game between Arbor View and Legacy wasn’t the best game of Friday night’s slate, it was at least probably the hardest hitting.

The Northwest division rivals slugged it out until only one team was left standing, and that team was the Aggies, which beat the Longhorns 28-14.

“Typical Battle of the Bulls,” Arbor View coach Dan Barnson said. “Two teams that played physical on both sides of the ball from beginning to end.”

Arbor View senior running back Deago Stubbs may have proven to be the difference. Stubbs scored two rushing touchdowns to go with an interception return for a touchdown.

“The pick-six was the first or second play of the second half,” Barnson said. “They ran an out. He read it, picked it and took it back. That was a huge play.”

Stubbs had 60 rushing yards on 16 carries, while his counterpart Jaquari Hannie picked up 68 yards on 13 carries.

Logan Bollinger scored the Aggies’ only non-Stubbs touchdown, pushing in a one-yard touchdown for the game’s first points.
