Liberty found a unique way to score its first touchdown against host Coronado in the Rose Bowl rivalry Friday night.
Senior defensive back Allan Mwata halted a Cougars drive when he corralled an interception and took off. Instead of keeping the ball for himself, Mwata lateraled it back to senior defensive back Jake Dedeaux.
“Jake got the pitch and weaved in and out for about 60 yards for the touchdown,” Liberty coach Rich Muraco said.
The Patriots’ highlight reel continued from there as they throttled the Cougars 43-3. Senior quarterback Kenyon Oblad scored both a passing and rushing touchdown for Liberty, while freshman running back Zyrus Fiaseu ran for 95 yards and a touchdown.
The Patriots enacted a running clock midway through the third period, and were able to play most of their roster.
