Las Vegas school truancy officer accused of choking student

A veteran Las Vegas-area truancy officer has been arrested and suspended after being accused of illegally entering a home and choking a 16-year-old student.

Clark County School District police say 56-year-old Scott Weissinger was arrested Wednesday on felony battery and burglary, and misdemeanor child abuse charges.

A message left Friday at a telephone number associated with Weissinger was not immediately returned.

Court and jail records showed that Weissinger was no longer jailed, and did not immediately reflect his court date or if he has a lawyer.

School police Capt. Ken Young says in a video news release that the incident happened while Weissinger was at the male student's residence following up on reports that the teen missed school.

Young says the student was not seriously injured.

Weissinger has worked for the school district since 1991, and has been suspended without pay.
