Everyone is missing her’: Eatery leads fundraising for shooting victim

Nearly a month after a local chef was shot more than a dozen times apparently by the father of their son, one restaurant is rallying for funds and support.

Shyanne Briggs, a chef at Vegenation’s Henderson location, was struck by about 15 rounds on April 5, according to a North Las Vegas Police arrest report.

The alleged shooter, Keith Lamar-Tillman, attempted to kill Briggs, 25, because “he didn’t want her to take their son,” police said.

During an argument over Briggs taking the child, she’d left for a while to cool down but returned to get her son, the suspect told police. “Tillman got heated and grabbed his (gun) from under his pillow in the master bedroom,” according to the report.

Tillman walked down a hallway and shot Briggs, who was standing in a bathroom doorway, police said.

Lamar-Tillman summoned police at 12:11 a.m., telling a dispatcher that he had shot the victim, police said. He later told detectives that he’d shot to kill and didn’t know how many times he pulled the trigger.

Briggs has been a chef at the Vegenation location since the fall, and the mother of three was frequently hailed as the eatery’s up-and-coming chef.

“She brings so much positivity, so much laughter — she always helps put people in a good mood,” said Vegenation creative director, Kelly Bennett. “She’s been working on bettering herself and creating a good life for herself and her kids. Everyone is missing her right now because she was the life of the kitchen. [She] would sing and dance with everyone. She would make you feel really special and taken care of.”

A Vegenation team member earlier this month created a GoFundMe page in an attempt raise $10,000 for Briggs. As of print time, the campaign had raised $7,800, and the restaurant raised an additional $3,000 at a recent fundraiser. “She’s going to need a lot more,” Bennett said. “She has a very long road ahead of her.” According to the GoFundMe page, Briggs is still currently in critical condition.
