As students prepare for a new school year, Nevada has implemented a statewide system to report possible threats and bullying at K-12 campuses.
The SafeVoice system, which launched this week, is staffed around the clock by trained personnel from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, the Clark County School District announced.
They’re seeking information from students and parents regarding "self-harm, violence and risky behaviors,” officials said. Details from those reports, which are confidential, can then be channeled to law enforcement or “specially designated school teams,” officials said.
The program was conceived in the 2017 legislative session to “protect student wellness, prevent violence and save lives,” officials said.
“With the SafeVoice reporting system, it means that somebody is there at any time, day or night, to take reports and respond appropriately,” said Tammy Malich, assistant superintendent of the education services division, in a news release. “The SafeVoice system offers students and parents a number of ways to make reports, and this will help to make our schools a safer place. We would like to encourage parents to download the app on their phones and their children’s phones, so they have the ability to make reports at any time.”
The program in Clark County replaces the “Say No to Bullying” website.
