Christian Vaughn exploded for six rushing touchdowns Friday night to lead Desert Oasis to a 40-26 win over Valley.

Vaughn carried the ball 42 times for 299 yards and the six scores, bringing his two-week total for the season to 501 yards and eight rushing touchdowns.

“He has good instincts,” Desert Oasis coach Michael Ovens said. “He makes good cuts on a dime. He’s tough and he power cleans almost 250 plus, squats 450 pounds. He’s just really strong in his lower body.”

Vaughn had all but 24 yards of the Diamondbacks' offense Friday night.

“He’s a workhorse,” Ovens said. “He gets a lot on his own with second-effort yards and breaks a lot of tackles.”

After going winless last season, Desert Oasis (2-0) now has more wins through two weeks than it did in the last two seasons combined.

“We’re getting some big push up front from our offensive line and have good senior leadership,” Ovens said. “Kids believe a little bit and have some confidence.”

Desert Oasis has a chance to extend its winning streak to three next Friday at Western (0-1).
