Cimarron-Memorial coach Kory Walker acknowledges his bias when it comes to Jordan Norwood, but also can’t contain his excitement about his star junior running back.
“I watch a lot of film, and I think this kid is the best running back in the state,” Walker said. “The guy runs the ball so hard.”
It might be hard to argue after Cimarron’s 42-25 victory over host Silverado on Friday night. Norwood was unstoppable, gaining 284 yards and five touchdowns on 20 carries.
The Spartans finally got a victory after dropping two close games to start the season. Walker implemented an up-tempo game plan in an attempt to exhaust the Skyhawks, and Norwood was the right player to lead the attack.
Silverado went ahead in the first quarter, but Cimarron exploded in the second quarter to build a significant cushion. In addition to Norwood, sophomore quarterback Branden Smith paced the Spartans with 157 total yards.
Included in Smith’s night was a touchdown pass to senior running back Marcus Poole.
