Joel Ntambwe’s career-best performance on Saturday for the UNLV basketball team in its overtime victory against BYU was honored today by the Mountain West.

Ntambwe, a freshman forward, is the league’s Player of the Week, being rewarded for his double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds.

More important, he made two free throws with 27 second remaining to send the game into overtime.

He made 6 of 8 shots from the field, and 7 of 8 free throws to help UNLV break a three-game losing streak.

He’s the first UNLV player to be honored this season by the league. The Rebels play Hawaii Saturday at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu.
