Letter: Hockey has no right to Knights

Mon, Feb 5, 2018 (2 a.m.)

The name Golden Knights has been recognized internationally as the Army’s elite parachute team for more than 50 years. The owner of the Vegas Golden Knights hockey team obviously has a desire to link himself to the Army following his service.

Some say the team should be able to use the name, as one is a private business and the other a government entity. They say no one would confuse a hockey team and a military unit. Using this logic, could I open a business called Golden Knights Ice Cream or Tacos. How about an auto dealership? Maybe even some variation of other casino names.

I have known of the Golden Knights since they performed at Nellis AFB in the early ’60s. This is money leveraging itself against high schools and the military with years-long established names and logos. Which will win in Nevada: money, or justice and logic?
