Las Vegas day spa linked to prostitution could get license revoked

A Las Vegas cosmetology establishment is facing disciplinary action from the city after a police sting revealed prostitution was allegedly occurring at the location, among other infractions.

The complaint filed by the Las Vegas planning department against D&D Day Spa, located on Jones Boulevard near Charleston Boulevard, and its owner, Mi Sook Cho, lists notices of violation and possible civil fines associated with allowing a massage therapist to engage or solicit sexual activity and operating a business in violation of state law and permitting or maintaining a public nuisance.

In May after an employee with the city’s business licensing division discovered online ads on websites commonly used to promote illicit activities like prostitution, the information was passed along to the special investigations section of Metro Police for further investigation.

On June 27, an undercover Metro officer was allegedly solicited for prostitution by Cho in an undercover sting and she was subsequently arrested. An emergency order suspended D&D’s business license for one week.

Additionally, the city said on two separate inspections in April and May, prior to the internet investigation and police sting, D&D Day Spa was found to be operating without a qualified massage person on the premises and failed to maintain a register of licensed massage therapists.

The business is licensed as a cosmetology services establishment, which includes manicures, pedicures and skin care, holding only an accessory massage license. That limits massage as an accessory service, to take place in a space that’s not more than 150 square feet and not allow signage advertising as a massage parlor.

During the May inspection, inspectors discovered massages being performed in multiple areas of the building in a space larger than 150 square feet.

A hearing to decide the disciplinary action against D&D will take place at the March 21 council meeting, where fines and/or suspension or the revoking of its business license are possible.

Attempts to contact Cho were unsuccessful ahead of press time.
