HomeAid of Southern Nevada helping the area’s homeless

An estimated 24,900 Southern Nevadans experienced homelessness last year, according to the 2017 Southern Nevada Homeless Census and Survey.

HomeAid America expanded to Southern Nevada in 2004 to help address this issue by renovating and building shelters for the homeless.

HomeAid of Southern Nevada forms partnerships with multiple service providers, including Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth and Family Promise, to help the homeless in the area reside in suitable homes, according to Nat Hodgson, executive director of HomeAid Southern Nevada.

There’s three ways to help get involved, through building shelter beds, by helping with outreach programs and through fundraising. Local builder and contractors can help become a build partner to make the shelter beds. The general public can help through outreach programs or fundraising.

“It’s a hand up, not a hand out,” Hodgson said.
