About 40,000 NV Energy customers were without service Monday night as a thunderstorm ripped through the valley, according to the company's website.

As of 10:47 p.m., 41,710 Las Vegas-area customers were without power, according to the NV Energy Outage Center.

The site lists several parts of the valley being affected, including Spring Valley, Henderson, and the eastern, central and southern parts of the valley.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued Monday night for most of the valley.

Metro Police spokesman Larry Hadfield in a statement encouraged drivers to be wary of intersections where the power is out and that they should come to a complete stop before proceeding.

He also said they should not cross streets or intersections that have water rushing through them.
