White House nominates Nevada U.S. attorney

The chief of staff for state Attorney General Adam Laxalt has been nominated to serve as Nevada’s United States attorney.

The White House announced today that Nicholas A. Trutanich would be put forward for confirmation, citing his experience in prosecuting cases related to violent crime and national security. He also served as an assistant United States attorney in California.

Trutanich would replace interim U.S. Attorney Dayle Elieson. Elieson is a former Texas prosecutor who was appointed as an interim in Nevada in January by U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions. She replaced acting U.S. Attorney Steven Myhre.

U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, a Democrat from Nevada, said in a statement that Trutanich is well-qualified and has her support.

“I worked with Nicholas Trutanich during my time as Nevada’s attorney general,” she said. “While we don’t share the same political views, he is a dedicated public servant who has served our state honorably.”
