Letter to the editor:

Zero tolerance for kidnapping

Fri, Jul 20, 2018 (2 a.m.)

What would happen if you took a child from his or her parent with no intention of giving the child back? It’s called kidnapping and if caught, you would go to jail for a long time.

President Donald Trump ordered the “zero tolerance” policy designed to separate child from parent at the southern border, with no plan to reunite. He stated in an impromptu news conference before flying to the NATO conference in Brussels: “Tell people not to come to this country illegally.” In other words, “zero tolerance” was a warning to any parents who plan to cross our border illegally that, if caught, they would lose their children.

This policy is callous indifference. This is the type of tactic you would expect to hear from Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un or perhaps Adolf Hitler. Why is this deliberate action not a crime?

Trump is a firm believer that he is above the law. Hopefully, special counsel Robert Mueller will introduce him to a law he is not above.
