The Las Vegas area will continue to be extremely hot through at least Friday.

The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has extended an excessive heat warning through Friday, when temperatures are expected to reach 113 degrees.

Meteorologist Chelsea Kryston says it might even be stretched through Saturday. The high temperatures will only drop a few degrees to 108 by Sunday.

Kryston says temperatures peaked at 115 degrees Wednesday, tying the record for the day set in 1942. The normal for this time of the year is 104 degrees.

The Weather Service is reminding people to drink fluids, stay out of the sun and not leave pets and children in cars.

Officials are urging homeless people to use cooling stations after three individuals were found dead last week of suspected heat-related causes.
