A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 2-year-old boy shot by another child Wednesday morning in the northeast valley, according to Metro Police and booking logs.

Michael Logan, 26, was booked Thursday at the Clark County Detention Center on counts of involuntary manslaughter, child abuse and neglect, and a prohibited person owning a gun, jail logs show.

Officers responded about 11:50 a.m. Wednesday to an apartment in the 3900 block of Nellis Boulevard, near Nellis Air Force Base, where they found the gravely wounded boy, police said. The child died at the scene.

The boy and four neighborhood children were playing in a bedroom when the gun fired, hitting the toddler in the forehead, police said. The other children were believed to be younger than 12, police said.

The victim’s mother, who was in the apartment, ran to the room, and she and a neighbor performed CPR, police said.

Lt. Ray Spencer said it was possible one of the children brought the gun to the room, where police found the firearm and a toy gun.

“For parents, you need to make sure what’s being brought inside the house with other kids,” Spencer said. “This is a tragic example of when children are playing with real guns, what can happen.”

Further details on the investigation were not available today.

Logan was being held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday, jail records show.
