Two hikers on Tuesday morning stumbled upon a slaying victim's body in a vegetation area in the Wetlands Park, according to Metro Police.

The woman, who was shot, was found slumped over in a dense area about 300 feet away from the east valley park's visitor center, Lt. Ray Spencer said.

She was declared dead at the scene, Spencer said. As of Tuesday night, the investigation remained in its initial stages, and many details were not immediately available, he noted.

Investigators were "working to find out many answers at this point," Spencer said.

Officers and medics responded to the park about 10:15 a.m., police said.
