Man shot, suspect in custody after police chase

Metro Police investigate after a man was shot and a suspect was taken into custody near Sands Avenue and Koval Lane following a car chase on Thursday, June 7, 2018.

A man was shot in the central valley and a suspect was taken into custody today after a car chase that ended near the Strip, according to Metro Police.

The suspect crashed into another vehicle and was handcuffed after he ran off on foot near Sands Avenue and Koval Lane, police said. The intersection was shut down.

The shooting was reported about 2 p.m. at Teddy Drive and Merritt Avenue, near Sahara Avenue and Interstate 15, police said.

A man was taken to University Medical Center with a gunshot wound. Information on his condition was not immediately available.

Officers spotted a vehicle in the area matching the description of one linked to the shooting, police said. When police tried stopping it, the driver took off, prompting a chase, police said. It ended about 2.5 miles east, police said.
