A motorist suspected of DUI claimed the brakes in her car didn’t work when she slammed it into a south valley convenience store, injuring three people, pinning one of them under a slot machine, according to a Metro Police arrest report.

Just before 1 a.m. Sunday, Lula Mae Jack, 53, pulled into a 7-Eleven at 1805 E. Tropicana Ave., near Maryland Parkway, police said.

But her Buick did not stop in the parking lot, police said. It continued, running over a victim’s foot outside the store and ramming into slot machines inside, injuring two other people inside.

One of them, a man, was pinned underneath one of the machines, which broke his neck, police said.

Officers noticed that Jack’s eyes were bloodshot, and she failed sobriety tests, blowing above the legal limit, police said. She told investigators she’d had one beer at home.

Jack was booked with a $50,000 bond at the Clark County Detention Center on a DUI count, jail logs show. She remained jailed on Friday evening.
