2 boys arrested on suspicion of homicide in Henderson

Sat, Jun 9, 2018 (10:13 p.m.)

Two boys have been arrested in the death of another boy, whose body was found in an abandoned Henderson house late Friday, according to city police.

Officers discovered the body about 11:15 p.m. in the 2000 block of Cool Lilac Avenue, near Eastern Avenue and Sunridge Heights Parkway, police announced Saturday night.

The investigation began when officers spotted a stolen vehicle at about 7:20 p.m. Friday near Sunset Road and Green Valley Parkway, police said.

The recklessly driven vehicle took off during an attempted officer-initiated stop, ran a red light and crashed at the intersection, police said. That’s when multiple juveniles took off running.

The vehicle, investigators later learned, was stolen in Las Vegas a week prior, police said.

With the help of a Metro Police helicopter, Henderson officers were able to identify and arrest the juveniles who fled, police said. One of them was booked on counts of vehicle theft and traffic-related infractions; another was booked on unrelated counts.

Sometime during that probe, investigators were “provided information of a possible homicide,” police said.

Through the night, investigators identified two boys and booked one of them on a murder count and the other on a count each of “accessory to murder after the fact” and destroying evidence, police said.

Further information on their arrests wasn’t immediately available, and it wasn’t clear how the victim died. It also wasn’t clear if the boys arrested in the death were linked to the crash of the stolen vehicle.

Due to their age, the arrested juveniles weren’t identified, police said.

This was the fourth homicide investigation in Henderson in 2018. Anyone with further information is asked to call police at 702-267-4911 or 3-1-1. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or crimestoppersofnv.com.
