Police: Motorist killed when truck runs red light

A 59-year-old motorist was killed this morning when another vehicle ran a red light and collided with the pickup truck he was driving in the northeast valley, according to Metro Police.

The crash happened about 7:50 a.m. at Lake Mead Boulevard and Mt. Hood Street, police said. A Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck headed west on Lake Mead ran a red light and collided with a Toyota Tacoma pickup, which was southbound on Mt. Hood, police said.

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Las Vegas man’s name was not released, pending notification of his family.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 32-year-old Las Vegas man, left the scene of the crash but later contacted police and was arrested, Metro said. Police said the man, who suffered minor injuries, was booked at the Clark County Detention Center, but no details were released.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
