A power outage Wednesday morning lasting more than an hour affected some operations at McCarran International Airport.

McCarran, which reported the 7:30 a.m. outage on its Twitter feed, said passenger checkpoints remained open, but operations were running slower than usual.

NV Energy was on hand to address the problem, and airport spokesperson Christine Crews said full power was restored just after 9 a.m. Although lights were back on, Crews said it would be some time until normal operations resumed.

The outage affected parts of Terminal 1, including the A, B and C concourses. Power remained on in the terminal's D gates and in Terminal 3, airport officials said. The baggage claim area of T1 and its carousels were also without power during the outage.

The outage created communication issues within the terminal.

Ticketing and gate operations were limited or unavailable during the outage. Some airlines opted for manual processing of tickets to keep customers flowing, but the process was much slower than normal operations.

McCarran’s largest carrier Southwest Airlines, along with Spirit Airlines and Allegiant Air, instituted ground stops —holding flights at their point of origin until the issue was resolved— for flights to McCarran during the outage.

Once power was restored, the Federal Aviation Administration reported delays of less than 15 minutes from scheduled times for all inbound and outbound flights at McCarran.

“We do anticipate there will be continued delays throughout that morning and possibly into the afternoon,” Crews said.
