I enjoyed reading about Faneuil Hall in the June 9 edition (“Boston grapples with Faneuil Hall, named for a slaveholder”), as I won a Boston Herald Spelling Bee City Championship there in 1945 for grade 11.
However, the correct pronunciation of “Faneuil” is not “FAN-yul” as it is commonly mispronounced, but “FAN’l”. Even that is a change from “FUN-nel” as it was originally enunciated.
