County issues air quality advisory due to smoke, ozone

Sun, Jun 24, 2018 (1:06 p.m.)

Smoke from the Pine Creek Fire in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and potentially high levels of ozone prompted Clark County's Department of Air Quality to issue an air advisory today.

In a news release, the department said levels of smoke and ozone had not reached the level where they were considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. However, officials said individuals with medical conditions making them sensitive to air quality conditions should be aware of the situation. That includes individuals with respiratory problems, cardiac disease, young children and seniors.

Saturday night, the Bureau of Land Management announced the blaze was 85 percent contained. Full containment was expected this evening, according to the release.

The scenic drive at the conservation area remains open, but the Pine Creek parking lot and trails in the area are closed until Monday.
