One person is dead, two are hospitalized and a 22-year-old convenience store employee is in custody after a shooting Friday at a gas station near a busy crossroads in Henderson, police said.
At 9:50 a.m., police responded to reports of a Hispanic male shooting people at a service station at Green Valley Parkway and Sunset Road.
Store employee Rafael Valdez was arrested shortly after the shooting around 10 a.m., Henderson Police Officer Rodrigo Pena said.
After Valdez, who was working at the time of the incident, shot his co-workers, he left the business on foot and was arrested in the 2800 block of North Green Valley Parkway, Pena said.
No officers were injured and Valdez was taken into custody without incident.
Two victims were taken to a hospital in critical condition and the third was hospitalized in unknown condition. One of the victims died sometime after, Pena said.
The cause of death as well as the identity of the deceased victim will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
Sunset Road was shut down for several hours in both directions from Sandhill Road to Green Valley Parkway.
Henderson resident Kevin Burke said he ran outside his home after hearing sirens and saw more than a dozen police cars and fire trucks headed to the scene less than a block away. He said it was frightening because there aren’t normally shootings in the area.
“It puts us on our toes a little more,” Burke said.
This is the second homicide in Henderson's jurisdiction this year.
