Johnny Stanton, whose UNLV football season last fall included reps at linebacker and quarterback, is using the versatility to make an NFL training camp.

Stanton took to social media today to announce he signed a contract with the Minnesota Vikings after impressing coaches over the weekend during a rookie tryout camp.

“What a blessing this weekend has been. I was one of 31 guys invited by the Vikings to try out for their 90-man camp roster,” he tweeted. “Through hard work and God’s Grace, I signed a contract with Minnesota and I am now able to call myself a Viking.”

Stanton came to UNLV is 2016 as a heralded junior college recruit at quarterback. But he was injured as a junior and eventually lost the starting position to Armani Rogers. So, he briefly joined the Rebels’ linebacker rotation.

He’s listed as an athlete with the Vikings.

Stanton played in eight games at quarterback with three starts last fall, completing 55 of 88 passes for four touchdowns and rushing for a pair of touchdowns. At linebacker, he had nine tackles. He also blocked a punt on special teams.

Other UNLV players from last season’s team who will be in training camps include Devonte Boyd (Bengals), Mike Hughes Jr. (Jags) and Robert Jackson (Colts).
