The UNLV basketball program has signed plenty of McDonald’s All-Americans in recent recruiting classes — Rashad Vaughn, Anthony Bennett, Stephen Zimmerman and Brandon McCoy, for instance.
UNR is now getting in on the five-star prospect action.
Jordan Brown, who Rivals.com ranks as 2018’s No. 11 overall prospect, announced his commitment to the Wolf Pack this morning.
The 6-foot-10 power forward from Napa Prolific Prep in California told Rivals that UNR was the first program to offer him a scholarship, and the relationship with coach Eric Musselman and his staff has grown from there.
He’ll be the second McDonald’s All-American to play at UNR in program history, according to Chris Murray of the Reno Gazette-Journal.
“People are going to question it but the same people who are questioning it are going to keep an eye on it and see how things are working out,” Brown told Rivals. “In a way it gets more eyes on (Nevada) and what we’ll be doing next season.”
Rivals describes him as “a skilled low post scorer with great hands, bouncy athleticism and a knack for rebounding at a high volume, Brown simply needs to get a bit stronger.”
Brown’s commitment gives UNR the 37th best recruiting class nationally, according to Rivals.
UNLV’s recruiting class includes four-star guard Bryce Hamilton, and three-star products Trey Woodbury of Clark High and forward Joel Ntambwe. It ranks No. 50.
In 2017, with McCoy leading the way, the Rebels’ class ranked in the top 10. Others from that class — big man Shakur Juiston, the former junior college player of the year, and rising sophomore Amauri Hardy — will be key contributors for the Rebels in 2018-19.
