Plans to develop the former Badlands Golf Club are set to appear before the city Wednesday after a court scrapped a previous approval.
The council is set to consider an amendment to the general plan designating the area for open space and recreation, pared-down plans to put housing on the land, and the first phase of a proposal to set a framework for developing former golf course land.
A recent court ruling tossed the city’s previous approval of development on the former course, saying Las Vegas abused its discretion and that a major modification on the land’s zoning and a general plan amendment would be needed for development to move forward. In a tie vote, the city decided not to joining developer Yohan Lowie in appealing the ruling.
The new proposed maps, in part, include single-family residential development on the land. Amending the general plan for the area to residential would open the door for development.
The council will also consider the first part of a plan by Councilman Steve Seroka to help the city handle these types of cases and avoid the numerous lawsuits filed by the developer over the stalled plans.
Seroka said the first part of the plan deals with developers communicating with residents about plans for former golf course land. Residents in the Queens Ridge area surrounding the former Badlands Golf Club have been fighting plans to develop the land.
A second part will have more specific guidelines for developments, and could be a couple of months away from appearing before the council, Seroka said.
