Metro Police said this composite sketch shows the suspect in the sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl that occurred on Wednesday, May 23, 2018.

Metro Police today released a composite sketch of the suspect in the sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl who accepted a ride from a man last week.

He is black man with a slender build and is bald or nearly bald, Metro Lt. Dave Valenta said. He was wearing a tan uniform and had some facial hair, he said.

Police also said they were stopping all black BMWs that match the description of the suspect’s car, a four-door model with matte black rims. A surveillance camera captured video of the car.

The girl was looking for her siblings on Wednesday near Twain Avenue and Swenson Street when the man “persistently” offered her a ride, Valenta said. She eventually got in the car and the man pulled out a gun, put a shirt over her head so she couldn’t see and drove her to an unknown location where he assaulted her, Valenta said.

He later drove the girl to an alley near where he picked her up and left her, Valenta said. Bystanders found the girl naked and called police about 4:35 p.m., he said.

The girl was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

“Healthwise, (she) will be OK. But as we’ve learned in history, there’s a trauma that goes to this I can’t begin to speak on,” Valenta said.

He also urged parents to remind their children to not take rides from strangers.

“This is not a lone incident. This has happened previously; it will happen again,” Valenta said. “So talk to your kids, warn the kids, encourage them again and again and again not to get in a vehicle with anybody for any reason. These people, these predators, they will use any means to make somebody feel comfortable.”

Anyone with any information about this incident or the identity or whereabouts of the suspect should contact Metro at 702-828-3421.
