There was a time when the Liberty High football program was one of the worst in the Las Vegas area. That hasn’t been the case, though, for most of the past decade. Not since Rich Muraco became coach.

They immediately became competitive, winning eight straight regional championships and two years ago earning a spot in the national top-20 rankings. Tonight, the Patriots closed the regular season with a 40-0 victory against Coronado for Muraco’s 100th career victory.

Players drenched Muraco with water after the game in celebration. Before the game, when word was starting to spread on social media that Muraco was close to the milestone, many former players offered their congratulations.

“The kids were excited. It was nice to see how appreciative everybody was,” Muraco said. “It’s a great bunch of kids and they made that moment fun for me.”

Caleb Pulu had two touchdown runs for the Patriots and Kanyon Stoneking passed for three touchdowns, including one to Mana Moniz. Jared Tufele added a short touchdown run.

Liberty hosts Desert Oasis next week in the playoff opener.
